19th Century Mori Residence and Shipping Agency

A must if you are heading to the Iwase area
Built in 1878, and designated an “Important Cultural Property” in 1994, this Edo style residence was the home and office of one of the leading shipping agency families in Iwase. In the 17th century, unusually stout sailing ships called kitamaebune (northern-bound ship) were developed to carry goods between Hokkaido and major southern Japanese ports, bringing commerce and wealth to Iwase.
