Toyama Municipal Folkcraft Village

The village encompasses 7 museums on local history, culture and art. It is located at the foot of Kurehayama Hills that lie in the western part of Toyama City. You can enjoy green nature and historic sites at the same time. You can experience Japanese tea ceremony at Enzan-an. In Chokeiji which locates nearby, there is "Gohyakurakan" that are 500 stone statues of disciples of Buddha.

The store put up a sign that is written "Etchu Hangontan", digestive medicine that used to be known as a miracle cure. You can feel the sense of tradition by looking at the exterior of the store. A restaurant on the second floor serves healthy dishes that use herbal medicines.

The history of pharmaceutical business in Toyama goes back more than 300 years. It houses all kinds of documents on that business. The main building used to be a merchant house in the early Meiji Era.

From the end of Edo Period to the Meiji Era, the trading by Kitamae-bune ship was at the height of its prosperity. Mori residence is one of the shipping agents. It was built in 1878, and its massive architecture reflects its prosperity of those times. It was designated as nationally important cultural property.

Toyama is one of the foremost producers of decorated kamaboko (fish paste). Kamaboko shaped as a red bream is a must at festive occations. In this factory, you can see how kamaboko is decorated, and also you can purchase various kinds of kamaboko products.

It is recommended to tour the factory in the morning.
