July 11th onwards: Brilliant Color / Toyama Glass Art Museum
Stunning colored glass.
Colorful glass bottles and marbles.
Colored glass has long captivated our hearts, intertwined with familiar memories from our daily lives. In the early 19th century, against the backdrop of advancements in chemistry, artisans and designers conducted extensive research and experimentation on materials, formulations, and techniques to create new colors, bringing about significant innovations in glass expression.
The works of artists such as Frederick Carder, Émile Gallé, René Lalique, Leo Moser, and Louis Comfort Tiffany have brought out a wide range of expressions through the spread of color in glass and its relationship with light. Colored glass has expanded from decorative art to everyday objects, enriching people's lives.
This exhibition showcases the appeal of colored glass from four perspectives: its popularization, innovation in materials and techniques, its spread into daily life, and its continuation in the present day. It features approximately 140 works from the Corning Museum of Glass and pieces from the Toyama Glass Museum.
