A vibrant festival full of port spirit, preserving and passing down the traditions of Iwase while also looking towards the future.
The "Iwase Minato Festival" adds color to the summer in Iwase, Toyama City.
In 2026, Awa Odori, one of Japan's most representative dances, and Owara Odori, one of Toyama's most representative dances, will perform together in a spectacular display. These two traditional performing arts, each with its own distinct character, will come together in the town of Iwase for a special day showcasing their unique charms.
The festival begins with a memorial service for those lost at sea and a prayer service for maritime safety. It is a festival filled with prayers and gratitude, unique to Iwase, a port town that has grown alongside the sea.
The event will also feature a performance of "Iwase Madara," a traditional folk dance that has been passed down since the Edo period and is designated as an intangible folk cultural property by Toyama City. Local preservation societies and children will connect the region's traditions to the future with their powerful singing and dancing.
Around the Iwase Canal Hall, a variety of events will be held, including brass band performances, taiko drumming, and night stalls. You can relax and enjoy the port town atmosphere with your family.
