Environmentally friendly small-scale hydroelectric power plant tour / Tourist volunteer guide
Experience
A tour of historical sites and landmarks in the Kamidaki area
Kamitaki is a town located along the Joganji River, a first-class river and one of Japan's fastest-flowing rivers. We will introduce the history of Kamitaki, a town that has been blessed with abundant water but has also battled against the river.
Completed in 26 based on a proposal by the Dutchman De Rijke, the Goguchi Irrigation Canal flows along both banks of the Joganji River, dividing into numerous agricultural water sources that irrigate the basin. Furthermore, in Jōsai, some of the water is purified and used as tap water, and currently, small-scale hydroelectric power generation is also carried out using the abundant river water. Enjoy a walk while taking in the natural beauty created by the river! (The course will be adjusted according to the time.)

Comment from the guide
The view from Kamidaki Falls, stretching from the Tateyama mountain range to the Sea of Japan and the Noto Peninsula, offers a moment of pure bliss.
Valuing the importance of learning from the past to understand the present, we guide visitors through the history of flood control on the Joganji River, small-scale hydroelectric power plants, and historical sites and landmarks in the area, with the Joganji Aiguchi Irrigation System, a World Heritage Site, as the centerpiece.
The course can be adjusted to fit your tour schedule.
