Basket-Transfer VR Experience / Inotani Checkpoint Museum

Experience
No reservation required. Same-day admission available.

Experience the life-threatening "basket transfer" in VR.

The Inotani Checkpoint Museum was located at a strategic point on the Hida Highway, which connected Etchu and Hida provinces.
Here, you can experience in VR the "basket ferry" used in an era when building bridges was not permitted.

When you get into a life-sized replica of the basket and put on VR goggles, the scene of crossing the rapids of the Jinzu River as it was back then unfolds before your eyes.
The banks are 26 meters high, and the water level is about 8 meters above sea level.
The swaying of the basket and the difficulty of moving it are also recreated, allowing you to truly feel that this was a life-threatening journey.

During the experience, the museum director provides commentary, making the historical background easy to understand.
Along with large-scale models and dioramas, the opportunity to learn about the role of checkpoints and the lives of the people there through hands-on experience is also a major draw.

You can enjoy a historical experience that goes beyond simply viewing; you can actually "cross" the bridge and learn about it firsthand.
