Ancient Culture Experience (Making Magatama Beads, Fire Starting, Braiding) / Toyama Prefectural Buried Cultural Properties Center
An archaeological museum where you can not only look but also "experience" the ancient past.
At the Toyama Prefectural Buried Cultural Properties Center, in addition to exhibiting excavated artifacts, visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences of ancient culture, such as making magatama (comma-shaped beads), starting fires (using the maigiri method), and making kumihimo (braided cords).
Making magatama (comma-shaped beads) by carving and polishing stones, watching the shape gradually emerge, is a moment that even adults can easily become engrossed in.
Making fire by rubbing two pieces of wood together is sure to be an exciting and moving experience.
The braided cords made by combining colored threads can be turned into straps, making it a "take-home experience."
Learn through exhibits, and gain understanding through hands-on experiences—this is an interactive spot that can be enjoyed by families and adults alike.
