Matsukawa Chaya (Riverside Tea House)

A teahouse where you can enjoy the scenery along the Matsukawa River.

Located within Toyama Castle Park, along the Matsukawa River known for its cherry blossoms, is the Matsukawa Chaya teahouse. From its glass-walled interior, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery that changes with the seasons: cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in early summer, and vibrant autumn leaves.

With soba and udon noodles, Japanese sweets, coffee, and matcha available, it's the perfect place to take a break during your stroll. The "Toyama Castle Matcha Parfait," topped with a monaka (wafer) shaped like Toyama Castle, is a must-try while exploring the surrounding area.

In addition, you can enjoy a wagashi (Japanese confectionery) making experience in the shop, allowing you to experience Toyama's wagashi culture. The appeal lies in being able to make wagashi with your own hands, such as seasonal wagashi or wagashi with motifs typical of Toyama, like masu-no-sushi (trout sushi).

The terrace seating area, lined with red parasols, is pet-friendly. The restaurant is also a departure point for the Matsukawa River cruise, making it a great place to stop by before or after your cruise.
