Triangular Dorayaki / Otsukaya

Triangular dorayaki, a specialty of Iwase

Dorayaki from Otsukaya, a Japanese confectionery shop founded in 8 in Iwase, a port town that retains its old streetscape.

Its distinctive triangular shape is inspired by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan. This treat features a thin skin made with eggs from Toyama Prefecture, wrapped around a filling of coarse red bean paste made with adzuki beans from Hokkaido.

The exquisite balance between the subtly sweet red bean paste and the soft, moist outer layer is simply superb. Its convenient size makes it easy to eat with one hand, making it perfect as a snack while strolling around town.

This is a local specialty you should definitely try when you visit Iwase.
