A commemorative photo taken during a visit to a mountain castle associated with Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Shiratori Castle is a mountain castle built on Shiroyama Hill in the Kureha Hills.

During the Sengoku period, Sasa Narimasa became the lord of Toyama Castle at the command of Oda Nobunaga. Later, after the Honnoji Incident, as Toyotomi Hideyoshi aimed to unify Japan, Narimasa refused to submit to Hideyoshi, and Hideyoshi's army invaded Etchu Province with a large force. It is said that they established their headquarters at this Shiratori Castle.

The "Shiratori Castle Goshuin" (castle stamp) features a design incorporating the "Sennari Hyotan" (thousand gourd), known as the battle standard of Hideyoshi's army. It's a stamp you'll want to pick up as a memento of your visit to Shiratori Castle, while reflecting on the history of the Sengoku period.

From Kureha Heights, where the stamps are sold, you can enjoy a stroll through the natural beauty of the Kureha Hills to the Shiratori Castle ruins. Along with collecting the castle stamp, be sure to visit the castle ruins, which were the stage for many historical events.

[Access to Shiratori Castle Ruins]
