Baba Memorial Park (Hasumachi Park)
Visit the golden trees in this peaceful park in the city.
Located right next to Hasumachi Station on the Toyama Port Line, Baba Memorial Park is a beloved spot in Toyama City for its "most beautiful" ginkgo trees, and is especially stunning in autumn.
This location originated when local notable Haru Baba donated approximately 20,000 tsubo (about 66,000 square meters) of land, leading to the founding of the former Toyama High School (the predecessor of Toyama University).
Within the park, there are still historical sites that tell the story, such as the founding monument, busts, and the "Nanbi Plum Grove."
The building once housed the "Hearn Library," which contained the personal collection of Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo).
The current Northern Children's Center inherits that design and quietly conveys the history associated with Yakumo, which was also featured in the NHK morning drama "Bakebake."
In autumn, the large ginkgo trees that symbolize the park all change color at once, creating a spectacular "golden carpet" of leaves from mid-November to early December.
This is one of Toyama City's best spots for viewing autumn foliage, perfect for both a stroll and taking photos.
