Hie Shrine

Sightseeing

A town shrine with fun zodiac stone statues and monthly changing goshuin (temple stamps).

This ancient shrine, associated with the Toyama Domain, offers a tranquil atmosphere that belies its location in the heart of the city.
The photo spot featuring stone statues of the twelve zodiac animals is popular with adult women as well.
The monthly changing goshuin (temple/shrine stamps) are so cute you'll want to collect them all!
Toyama's largest festival, the Sanno Festival, brings the entire town to life for three special days.
It's easily accessible from Toyama Station, making it a convenient stop during your travels.

Located in the heart of Toyama City, Hie Shrine is affectionately known as "Sanno-san" by the citizens of Toyama. It has long been cherished as the principal tutelary shrine of the Toyama Domain, and is a peaceful and comforting shrine in the city center.

It is also worshipped as the god of matchmaking, safe childbirth, and commerce and industry, and visitors come with a variety of hopes and wishes, including those seeking success in love, those expecting a baby, and those working hard.

Held every year in early summer (May 31st to June 2nd), the Sanno Festival is one of Toyama's most representative festivals, bringing a lively and vibrant atmosphere to the entire town.

The temple grounds are lined with stone statues of the Chinese zodiac animals, adding to the enjoyment of visiting the temple as visitors can search for their own zodiac sign and take photos.

Furthermore, the goshuin (temple/shrine stamp) book, which features a different colored shrine emblem each month, is a popular item that enhances the joy of collecting. There are also limited-edition goshuin books and goshuin stamps available.

Easily accessible from Toyama Station and the airport, this "town forest" is a place you can drop by for a leisurely stroll.
Why not take a short break during your journey and spend some time rejuvenating your mind surrounded by tranquil trees?
