Iwase townscape / Iwase tourism
Discover something exciting in this quiet port town. Enjoy a stroll through Iwase.
Iwase flourished as a port town for Kitamae ships during the Edo period.
Around the old Hokkoku Kaido (Omachi Street), remnants of the port town remain, such as storehouses and shipping agent buildings, creating a nostalgic atmosphere just by walking around.
In recent years, galleries, shops, cafes, and bars have sprung up in historic buildings, creating a unique blend of old-world charm and modern amenities that is characteristic of Iwase. One of the joys of strolling around is discovering an unexpected gem by wandering down a side street.
Iwase Canal Hall is a great starting point for your stroll.
You can obtain walking maps, rent bicycles, and gather information, making it easier to plan your trip.
If you have the time, I recommend trying some of the local delicacies unique to this port town (such as white shrimp dishes).
You can take a leisurely ride along the canal on the Fugan Water Line from Kansui Park, or take a tram from Toyama Station.
Iwase is a place where simply getting there becomes a small journey in itself.
Why not discover your favorite view in this quiet, retro port town that also resonates with today's sensibilities?
