Shiratori Castle Ruins

Sightseeing

A mountain castle overlooking the Tateyama mountain range, where Toyotomi Hideyoshi established his headquarters.

Shiratori Castle is an important mountain castle from the Sengoku period. It is said that Toyotomi Hideyoshi established his headquarters there in 1585 when he was campaigning against Sassa Narimasa.
From the summit, a magnificent panorama unfolds, offering views of Toyama city and the Tateyama mountain range. You can enjoy a quintessential Toyama landscape where the city and mountains blend seamlessly.
The nearby "Kureha Heights" is selling commemorative castle stamps. 300 yen each.

Shiratori Castle ruins were built on Shiroyama (elevation 145.3m) in the Kureha Hills, overlooking the Toyama Plain.

It is known as a strategically important military location, taking advantage of its advantageous position overlooking both east and west. The castle's name is said to originate from the Shiratori Shrine located at the eastern foot of the mountain.

During the Sengoku period, Toyama was the site of many battles, and it is said that in 1585, Toyotomi Hideyoshi established his headquarters there in order to subdue Sasa Narimasa, who was based at Toyama Castle.

Even today, remnants of mountain castles built on earth, such as dry moats, earthworks, and the remains of baileys, can still be found.

From the summit, you can see the Tateyama mountain range beyond the city of Toyama, making it a spot where you can enjoy both the history of the Sengoku period and the spectacular scenery that is characteristic of Toyama.
