Toyama Castle Ruin Park

Sightseeing

Castle ruins × gardens × museum: A city spot that satisfies both your eyes and your soul.

The stone walls, moats, and gardens create a serene and exquisite castle ruin landscape.
Walking spots where you can quietly touch upon history, such as Kagamiishi and Chitose-gomon Gate.
The views from the castle tower and the learning and discoveries at the local history museum are enjoyable.
The cherry blossoms along the Matsukawa River and the seasonal events create picturesque scenery that is beautiful to photograph in every season.
At the Sato Memorial Museum, which features a tea room, you can enjoy East Asian antique art and even experience a tea ceremony.

Toyama Castle Ruins Park is located on the site of Toyama Castle, which was ruled by the Sengoku period warlord Sasa Narimasa and later by the Maeda family.
The stone walls and moats still quietly retain the atmosphere of yesteryear, and in the pond-centered strolling garden, you can enjoy a leisurely walk while feeling the changing seasons.
The reflection of the stone walls in the moat is a popular spot that makes you want to take pictures.

The Toyama City Local History Museum, located within the castle grounds, offers an easy-to-understand introduction to the history of the castle from its construction to modern times, as well as the development of the castle town.
From the castle tower, you can see the city and the Tateyama mountain range, creating a sense of openness that you wouldn't expect in the middle of a city.

One of the highlights is the "Chitose Gate," the only remaining structure from the Edo period.
The gate, which survived the war, quietly tells a long story.

Furthermore, at the Toyama City Sato Memorial Museum of Art, which features a tea room, you can experience ancient East Asian art and take a break with a tea ceremony.
In spring, a tunnel of cherry blossoms stretches along the Matsukawa River, and you can relax and enjoy a picnic on the spacious lawn.

The "Town Tourist Information Center" located within the castle ruins park also sells Toyama Castle commemorative stamps and merchandise.
During spring and autumn weekends, events are held where you can try on samurai armor and go horseback riding, making it a hub for city sightseeing where you can enjoy history, scenery, learning, and experiences all at once.
