Toyama Castle stands in the heart of Toyama City.
Founded in 1543 by Jinbo Nagashige, the area has witnessed the turbulent times from the Sengoku period to the early modern period, with successive lords including the Uesugi, Sasa, and Maeda clans.

During the Sengoku period, Sasa Narimasa, a retainer of Oda Nobunaga, took control of the castle and ruled over the entire province of Etchu.
It is said that Narimasa, utilizing his advanced civil engineering skills, incorporated the Jinzu River and Itachi River, so that the castle could become a "floating castle" in times of emergency.

Later, it was rebuilt by Maeda Toshinaga, and after the establishment of the Toyama Domain, it served as the Maeda family's castle for approximately 230 years, playing a central role in the politics and culture of the region.

After being abandoned during the Meiji era, the castle was reopened as Toyama Castle Ruins Park in 1952.
The current castle tower, rebuilt in 1954, was designated a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2004 as a representative building from the post-war reconstruction period.
It is now a beloved symbol of the city of Toyama.

The interior houses the "Toyama City Local History Museum," which presents over 400 years of history in an easy-to-understand way through models, videos, and related materials.
From the top floor, you can enjoy views of Toyama city, making it a castle spot in the city center where you can stroll around, learn, and take photos all at once.

The castle stamp can be purchased at the "Toyama City Downtown Tourist Information Center" located within the park.
