Ukita Family Residence

Sightseeing

The mansion of a wealthy farmer associated with the Kaga Domain, a timeless presence.

A special time to experience the spirit of a bygone era in a thatched-roof farmhouse built in the mid-Edo period.
The main house, front gate, and storehouse are all designated as important national cultural properties, making this a valuable historical space.
The highlight is the beautiful architecture, which evokes the lifestyle of yesteryear, with its spacious earthen floor and dignified tatami rooms.
A quiet spot where you can "experience" the culture and lifestyle of wealthy farmers from the Kaga Domain era.

The Ukita family residence preserves the lifestyle of a wealthy farmer from the mid-Edo period.
The family's origins trace back to the third generation, Sohei, who served as a mountain patrol officer for the Kaga Domain, responsible for protecting the forests of Tateyama and Kurobe and guarding the border. With each passing generation, the family's status grew, and by the time of the seventh generation, Zen'emon, it was known as a prestigious family boasting a stipend of "3,000 koku."

The three buildings that remain today—the main house, the front gate, and the storehouse—are designated as important cultural properties of Japan.
From the imposing thatched roof and spacious earthen floor to the finely furnished tatami rooms, every corner exudes the atmosphere of the Edo period, and time seems to slow down in a tranquil setting.

A moment to experience the pride of a wealthy farmer and the beauty of a refined lifestyle. The dignified presence of the historic building soothes the soul.

Additionally, Ukita House also offers room rentals.
We can also take attractive photos utilizing traditional Japanese houses.
