Yamadano-kakashi
Experience the full flavor of the mountain seasons. Discover the bounty of Yamada and handcrafted goods at this local farmhouse.
[Characteristics of the Yamada area]
The Yamada area of Toyama City (formerly Yamada Village), where the direct sales store is located, was once a thriving center for sericulture and rice farming. In the 90s, every household was provided with an Apple Macintosh computer, and the area gained national attention as a "cyber village" that experimented with computer communication, which was rare at the time.
Located near the Ushidake Onsen ski resort, this area boasts a cool climate characteristic of mountainous regions. Taking advantage of this favorable environment, delicious vegetables and rice are still grown here today.
[Features of the direct sales store]
The origin of the "Yamada no Kakashi" direct sales store is a small "village morning market" started by local farmers.
Here, it's normal for cucumbers to be crooked. It's normal for tomatoes and eggplants to be irregularly shaped. At first glance, the vegetables on display are quite different from those found in supermarkets, each with its own unique character, but in return, they are all grown with plenty of love and care by the farmers.
In addition, a wide variety of spring wild vegetables, autumn mushrooms, and matsutake mushrooms are available. These are truly "bounty of the mountains," gathered by local mountain experts who wear bear bells on their waists and push their way through the bushes.
Please come and visit our direct sales store, where you can feel the scent of the earth and the breath of the mountains.
[Features of the prepared food section]
What Yamada no Kakashi (Yamada's Scarecrow) is proud of is that it has an attached processing facility where seasonal ingredients delivered to the direct sales store can be cooked on the spot.
The standard menu includes various types of sticky rice dishes such as sweet potato, wild vegetables, and black beans, as well as rice balls made with rice from Yamada, simmered potatoes from Ushidake Plateau, and freshly fried croquettes.
In addition, they offer a wide variety of seasonal delicacies, such as bamboo shoot rice in spring, chestnut rice in autumn, ginger sushi, and pickles. For after-meal treats or snacks, gentle sweets like mugwort dumplings, ohagi (sweet rice balls), and homemade jams are also popular.
[Features of the handmade soba restaurant "Onmori-an"]
At "Onmori-an," the soba noodle restaurant located inside the shop, you can enjoy authentic handmade soba noodles made with buckwheat flour from Yamada, prepared by the owner himself. We also offer soba noodle making classes, which are open to beginners.
[Features of the Scarecrow Thanksgiving Festival]
We hold a Thanksgiving Festival every other month. A former French chef who moved to the Yamada area and started farming transforms from a "farmer" back into a "chef" for this special day, showcasing his culinary skills. Please enjoy dishes you can only taste here, such as hot pots made with plenty of seasonal vegetables and game meat dishes.
Additionally, a raffle with a high chance of winning big prizes will be held simultaneously!
For detailed schedule information, please check the notices posted in the store or our website.
[Yamada's Scarecrow Project]
